SRP Albanian Engineering was awarded with his joint venture partners Casanova + Hernandez Architects (Netherlands) and his mother company SRP Schneider + Partner for the “Development Concept, master plan of interventions at the entrance of Shkodra and the project of requalification of the western shore of Lake Shkodra, Albania”, financed by the Albanian Development Fund.
The study area and subject of this project, defined as “Urban requalification of the western shore of Lake Shkodra” (Buna River Park), is located in the territorial boundaries which extend from the bridge over the Buna River, continues with the city park by the river and ends at the Bypass road.
Shkodra Lake is one of the most important national and international ecosystems, in Albania. Beyond the natural values, the lake offers good opportunities for the development of recreational spaces. Shkodra Lake and Buna River represent a very important area of the City of Shkodra, with a very high potential for tourist development.
For its great cultural, natural, biological, and landscape values, the Montenegrin part of Lake Shkodra has been declared a National Park since 1983 (Category IUCN II). In 1995 the Shkodra Lake National Park was registered in the Ramsar list (as a wetland of international importance). The Albanian part of the lake did not have a protected status, until 2005, when it was declared by the Albanian Government “Managed Nature Reserves” according to decision no. 684, dated 02. 11. 2005. In February 2006, the area was declared a Ramsar site.
